Sherree Rothstein, owner

Sherree was born and grew up in Philadelphia, Pa. She attended Penn state where she met her husband of 30 years, Michael. His job working as a rep for a clothing manufacturer brought them to Chicago when Sherree was pregnant with their first child. She held several part time jobs while raising her two boys. She was a drug rep for some time and taught aerobics as well. In 1995 after working with her husband for years in the clothing rep business Sherree decided to try her hand at running her own store. She bought an existing business in Crystal Lake and renovated the business into a mainstay of the charming historic downtown area. After seven years of running her business it was time to spread her wings again. Since Sherree was a resident of Libertyville it made sense to open her second store right in her own backyard, driving time about 4 minutes versus the 50 minutes to Crystal Lake. People often ask about the store name. Though Yaya does mean Grandma in Greek (with different spelling) the genesis of the store name comes from a southern term for “women who talk”. Sherree loved the book Divine Secrets of the YaYa Sisterhood which reminded her of her own close friends, ergo the name YaYa’s.
